Stop with the diet pills & shakes. There’s a more sustainable way to lose weight – and it actually tastes good!

Weight loss quick fixes are all around us. We’re constantly bombarded with different “easy” ways to lose weight. I’ve tried them, and I’m sure you have as well, but how often have they really worked for you? In my experience, they didn’t really work at all!

When I hit my breaking point, I turned to any program that promised fast results because I didn’t want to be where I was for another second. I wanted a quick fix that would get me back to feeling like myself. I was willing to try anything! What I actually did was spend a lot of money on things that didn’t provide lasting results.

Even though it was frustrating at the time, I’m so glad that I tried so many things because now you can learn from my mistakes! Let me tell you a little bit about what does and doesn’t work for long-term, real weight loss!

Why diet pills & shakes don’t work long-term

When I was on my weight loss journey, one of the things I tried was special diet shakes. I liked the idea of a shake because it was supposed to give me all the nutrients I needed, it was quick and I could eat it on the go. It sounds like the perfect solution, right? Well, what I actually found out was that drinking a shake wasn’t nearly enough sustenance to keep me going!

I found out that drinking a special shake for every meal left me seriously hangry! As a mom, I couldn’t just drink a shake and have the energy I needed to keep up with my kids! It was a great thought, but I wasn’t actually getting everything I needed from the shakes.

I was so desperate to lose weight that I even tried using fat burning pills to allow me to indulge and still lose weight. I was sorely disappointed by these too. I felt the same and didn’t see any results from them.

In addition to these methods not working, they can be dangerous! Extreme diets that require you to only eat or drink one thing for extended periods of time can cause malnutrition. Diet pills have serious side effects and aren’t tested or approved by the FDA.

What I found to actually work was eating real food!

Why whole foods are the best option for sustainable weight loss

People need food. We can all agree on that, right? It would be impossible to live without eating real, whole foods! So shouldn’t our diet plans include real foods, especially if we want to be able to keep the weight off for good?

Whole foods, when eaten in the correct balance, will give us the nourishment that we need and will help us see the body composition changes that we want to see.

Now, there are a lot of diets that focus on eating real, whole foods, but you may not see sustainable weight loss from those either. A lot of diets go to the extremes, either restricting certain food groups or having you eat too much of one food group.

Restricting certain foods groups usually just drives us crazy and causes us to binge. Diets that restrict won’t last long-term unless you have superhuman willpower. On the flip side, diets that focus on eating too much of one food group usually leave your body without the nutrients it needs to function properly, and again you binge on foods that aren’t the best because your body just wants those nutrients!

The key to a healthy life is eating real food in balance. Your body needs protein, fat, and carbs! Yes, carbs are important to living a healthy life! If you want to lose weight, then you need to have the correct balance of protein, fat and carbs for YOU.

A whole foods diet should be specific to you and your needs! Everybody is different and has different needs, so we need to fuel our bodies with foods that will help us accomplish our goals.

What I found to be the best option was macro tracking or flexible dieting. I was finally in tune with what my body needed and I had a plan to eat the right amount of protein, fat and carbs so that I could lose weight, build muscle, and look and feel like I wanted to! Plus, with flexible dieting, there aren’t any restrictions! If I want an ice cream sandwich every night, then I work that into my plan.

I found macro tracking five years ago and I’m still going strong with this lifestyle! I lost the weight. I kept it off. I found balance in my food and my life. I am so glad that I took my own journey to this point so that I can share my experiences with you!
