Each season has its perks, but there is something extra special about fall! The world starts to cool down, the leaves start to change and pumpkin spice everything makes its appearance. No matter how you feel about pumpkin spice, you have to admit that autumn foods are especially delicious!
I remember a time when I told myself that I couldn’t have some of my favorite fall foods because they were bad for me. But I’ve come a long way in my nutritional journey and one of the things I love best about my flexible dieting lifestyle is that I can have my favorite fall foods! I even drink Pumpkin Spice Lattes! Yes, I, a nutritionist, sometimes drink my calories in the fall!
I’ve found in my six years in the health industry that deprivation leads to binging. Instead of telling myself no, no, no, I ask myself, how can I fit this into my plan? This mindset change has helped me cultivate balance in my diet. I don’t have to give up that PSL, I just decide not to have a PSL, pumpkin muffin and Apple Spice Oatmeal cookies in one day!

1. Pumpkin Spice Latte

I love me a Starbucks PSL, but sometimes I need an at-home option that fits into my daily meal plan a little bit better. This Pumpkin Spice Latte Is a great way to enjoy the flavor of a traditional PSL in my own kitchen. If you want to kick it up a notch, nutritionally, you can add collagen to your PSL. There isn’t a noticeable taste and it will increase the protein!
2. Apple Spice Oatmeal Cookies

These are the perfect cookies for fall! They’re full of good, wholesome ingredients which means you don't have to feel like you’re “cheating.” on your healthy living goals. In fact, I loathe the phrase “cheating on my diet” if you have to cheat to be happy then it’s not a sustainable diet! Instead, make a plan that allows for a cookie and eat it without guilt!
3. Pumpkin Loaf

Is there anything better in the fall than a loaf of pumpkin bread? I think not. This is a fall-must-have food and I love this recipe because almost anyone can eat it! It’s gluten-free and dairy-free. It’s also made with healthy fats like sunflower-seed butter and coconut oil! However, if you want a little less fat, you can substitute the coconut oil for applesauce.
4. Apple Spice Muffins

The combination of cinnamon, nutmeg and fresh apples in these muffins is just about as perfect as fall can get! Plus these muffins are low in carbs, so you can enjoy them without having to adjust your usual eating habits. You can also play with this recipe and add more fruit or if you want a little boost in protein you can add hemp seeds!
5. Pumpkin Spice Granola

Pumpkin muffins are another fall classic! I love muffins because they are so customizable! Personally, I’m a fan of pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, so I like to add those in, but you can add any mix-ins that make you happy! Just remember that it will change the macros from what’s listed here.
