5 Reasons You Must Try Flexible Dieting this Holiday Season
The holiday season is just around the corner and is going to be here before we know it. My favorite part about the holidays is enjoying all the good foods that are available! I love indulging in some mashed potatoes, a slice of pumpkin pie and all the holiday cookies! With my flexible dieting program, I can enjoy all of my favorite foods and still stay on track with my health goals!
Flexible dieting allows me to have a lot of, well flexibility, with my diet, so that I can enjoy all the holidays have to offer without ruining all the hard work I've put in all year long. Flexible dieting doesn't come with a list of dos and don'ts, which allows you to live a healthy and happy life.
Here are five reasons that flexible dieting works and why it's a good time to start this journey now!
Balance
One of my absolute favorite things about macro tracking and flexible dieting is that we don’t create a list of “good” foods or “bad” foods. Food is a way to nourish your body. There are definitely better foods for nourishment than others, but that doesn't mean those other foods are forbidden.
You can enjoy pumpkin chocolate chip cookies without feeling guilty because you’re working towards balance! Flexible dieting needs to fit into your life!
Choice
Flexible dieting doesn’t have a set meal plan. You don’t have to eat foods you can’t stand. Instead, flexible dieting leaves the food choices completely up to you! You choose the foods you enjoy. You decide how to prepare those foods. You choose when to eat them.
This also means that you can choose which foods to indulge in and where you can make better choices! If you want those mashed potatoes, you can choose to eat more turkey or veggies instead of having a roll too.
Food Freedom
One of the biggest benefits of food freedom is that you don’t have to binge anymore. My clients tell me all the time that they are so glad that they don’t go on food binges because they get to enjoy the foods they love every day! They aren’t being forced to suffer in the name of dieting.
Food freedom means that you can enjoy treats without guilt, but that also means you need to use your freedom wisely! I aim to enjoy a “treat” every day - but that means one serving of a treat. You can’t stuff your face full of cookies and say you’re living a healthy lifestyle!
Food Knowledge
I think it’s so important to know what you’re eating, where it comes from, how it affects your body and how it makes you feel. As you learn more about food, you’ll become better equipped to nourish your body. Macro nutrition and flexible dieting aren't about following a set meal plan. It’s about becoming educated and using your knowledge to improve your life.
You can use your newfound knowledge of food to plan out your food so you can enjoy your favorites without throwing the whole day off track! Like I said before, it’s all about balance. If you know you’ll be enjoying a lot of carbs at your holiday party, you can load up on protein throughout the day so that you stay on track!
Sustainability
Macro tracking is 100% sustainable. I can say this because I’ve been doing it for years. You may start by calling it a diet, but over time it becomes a lifestyle. You aren’t being restricted to certain food groups. You aren’t living on shakes and I’m absolutely not pushing diet pills! You get to enjoy food for what it is and what it does for your body, even during the holidays!
Should I start now or wait until the new year?
Living a healthy life should never be put off! We focus so much on living it up during the holidays and then "being good again" in January. The best part of flexible dieting is that is is a lifestyle. You can do it right now and still enjoy the holiday season.
If you want to get back into shape, lose weight, or just learn to eat better, then start right now! Don't put it off just because it's what everyone else is doing. Enjoy a better life today!
