What do you have to be thankful for? This has been a hard year and it’s very easy to make a list of what 2020 and the Coronavirus have taken from us. However, expressing gratitude during hard times can make a big difference in our mental and physical health.

If you’re struggling to find something specific to be grateful for, I suggest using a gratitude affirmation instead.

Starting your day off with a gratitude affirmation is a great way to remind yourself of all the wonderful things you have in your life. Repeating a gratitude affirmation can give you the energy and courage to face the day and all of the challenges and adventures it may bring. Daily gratitude affirmations can also help you recognize that your dreams are possible.

Affirmations are easy to do and they don’t take much time at all. In just a few minutes you can empower and energize your day better than any cup of coffee ever could. You’ll set your day up for success by inviting prosperity and abundance into your life from the get-go.

How to start a gratitude affirmation practice

I have a three-step system to help you start a gratitude practice that you won’t give up on in a week! The most difficult part of changing to a gratitude mindset is developing a lasting habit! The three-step system will take away that issue.

Step 1: Post

Once you pick your affirmation, I want you to write it down and post it in a few places around your house or office - or even your car! Write an affirmation on a few sticky notes and put them anywhere you spend a lot of time!

Step 2: Remind

This step is crucial to making your gratitude affirmation a habit. Set a reminder in your phone a few times throughout the day to say your affirmation out loud. You can even put the affirmation in as the title of your alarm! That way you see it and can say it out loud when you look at your phone. I suggest setting a timer for first thing in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.

Step 3: Share

Share your affirmation with your loved ones. You can tell it to your spouse, your kids, your best friend, your mom, it doesn’t matter who you pick. Ask them to be your support system and to check in with you every once in a while to see how the affirmation is helping you. Sharing your affirmation with someone else does more than just keep you accountable, it helps reinforce the lesson you’re learning! Teaching people is a great way to help you create a habit and stick to it as well!

12 Empowering Affirmations

These are just a few ideas of affirmations you can use. Don’t feel like you have to stick with something on this list!

If one of these doesn’t feel authentic to you, then don’t use it! Our brains will want to fight this new way of thinking, so choose something that feels true to you! This doesn’t mean that the affirmations that don't feel authentic aren’t true, but it may just not be the right time for that particular affirmation.

You should also use your own voice in your affirmations. If you like the sentiment of the affirmation, but it’s worded in a way you don’t like, change it! Make it sound like you and you’ll connect to it so much better!

  1. I feel an abundance of gratitude for everything I have and receive every day.

  2. My needs and desires are generously met. For this I am thankful.

  3. I am grateful for all the great health, love, and goodness that my life has revealed to me.

  4. I am continually amazed at how abundant my life is already!

  5. I am grateful for everything I experience in this lifetime. I overcome, I grow, and I prosper all the time. My abundant blessings, as well as my difficulties, all make me better, stronger, and more alive.

  6. I am so grateful for every person and everything in my life.

  7. I appreciate everything I have and I show my sincerest gratitude to my loved ones.

  8. The universe pours joy into my life every day. It has my cup overflowing with wealth, health, and love.

  9. My life is singular, unique and wondrous. For this, I am profoundly thankful.

  10. I clearly see the beauty of life that flourishes around me.

  11. I give gratitude for God’s endless treasures.

  12. I am grateful for my blessed ancestors living on through my blood.

When you feel like you’ve incorporated one affirmation into your life, you can choose a new one to focus on! This practice is meant to be done for a lifetime, not just a few months!

Use your gratitude affirmations to decrease stress

Between the holidays and the Coronavirus making a second round, stress levels are at an all-time high. I wanted to share this gratitude affirmation technique with you so that you have a tool to decrease your stress.

Gratitude helps lower stress levels because your subconscious mind begins to realize that you have all you need and desire. Your negative reactions are soothed and they begin to slip away. You’ll find that you have more peace of mind and a sense of calm that you may never have known before.

There will always be obstacles and stumbling blocks in life, but there is also always joy around you. Using these positive affirmations will help you tap into that joy, keep a positive attitude and let go of the negative emotions that are tying you down. Think of it as a free gift you can give yourself and your family this holiday season!
