Unlock The Surprising Secret Busy Moms Need To Lose Weight

I feel like everyone is always trying to lose weight. If you talked to your friends today, most of them would say they’re dieting, or they should be on a diet. Every woman I talk to wants to lose 10, 15, or 20 lbs. And we all accept that. But do you ever go one more step and ask yourself why? Why do you want to lose weight? I’ve found that busy moms want to lose weight not just to look good, but to feel like themselves again.

No doubt, we’d all love to look thin and strong and fit, but at the end of the day, that’s not what drives busy moms, who are already overworked, to keep pursuing weight loss. The idea of looking in the mirror and seeing our best selves is what drives us to add one more thing to our plate and even though we don’t want to, start another diet that promises results.

Here’s the thing though, mama. You can diet until you’re 80 years old. You can drop 20, 30, 50 lbs and you still won’t look in the mirror and love what you see until you change the thoughts that are bouncing around in your head.

Loving yourself doesn’t come from weight loss

I want to tell you a little bit about my weight loss journey.

When I first started losing weight, I had one goal: look good naked.

I had just come off of my third pregnancy and I didn’t recognize my body anymore. I wanted my two-sport college athlete’s body back. I wanted to be thin and beautiful because I had been so confident in who I was when I was skinnier.

So I did what I had done when I was a college athlete, I hit the gym. And I hit it hard. It had always been so easy for me to lose or maintain my weight when I was more active so I thought that would be the best way to lose weight again.

But no matter how many hours I spent in the gym my weight didn’t budge. And it turns out being a mom doesn’t leave you with a ton of time to spend at the gym.

So I shifted gears, I started trying whatever diets my friends or family heard about or recommended to help me lose weight.

I did hCG, Paleo, Isogenics, and whatever else I could get my hands on. And I lost a few pounds here and there but once I stopped doing things their way the weight came back with a vengeance.

And despite spending thousands of dollars on programs and memberships I didn’t feel any different in my body.

In fact, I felt more lost than ever.

Because I was doing what all the experts were telling me to do and I still didn’t feel good in my body.

What I didn’t understand yet, was that I was only doing half the work. Yes, weight loss takes physical work: eating well and moving your body. But, the real change comes when you go beyond the food and the exercise and start addressing your thoughts.

You have to address your thoughts if you want to feel good in your body.

I didn’t realize until a few years into my health and weight loss journey that my thoughts were playing an enormous role in my success and failure.

The times when I felt like I was crushing it and when I felt good in my body, it wasn’t because the scale changed or I unlocked a secret food, pill or shake that skyrocketed my results.

When I felt amazing about myself and my progress it was because I was pouring into my mindset and saying kind things to myself.

Because everything starts with our thoughts. How we feel about ourselves doesn’t come from the outside, it comes from the inside!

Think about it, you don’t take action without a thought! Some thoughts are less conscious (like we don’t actively think about breathing but we keep doing it,) but it still requires a thought - you just may not notice it!

The same idea applies to how you think or talk about yourself. If you’ve been putting yourself down for years, you may not notice every thought you have about yourself or food. But those unconscious thoughts are still holding you back.

Maybe you’re thinking that’s a little woo-woo, Krista. But let me break it down into real terms for you.

Let’s say we have two mamas. Mama One weighs 230 lbs and is so proud of herself. She’s proud of what her body has done for her and all that she has accomplished in her health.

Mama Two weighs 130 lbs and is mad and frustrated with herself that she’s “let herself go.” She can’t believe that she let it get this bad.

If we were just looking at the numbers, then Mama One should feel bad, not Mama Two, right? Mama Two weighs less but is more unhappy. So it can’t be the number on the scale that determines our happiness. It’s our thoughts.

If you’re Mama Two right now and you’re mad, frustrated, disappointed, stuck, lost, or whatever you’re feeling, then your first step is NOT to cut out all sugar, carbs or fats. You shouldn’t start punishing yourself in the gym. You should focus on your thoughts.

How can you build yourself up? What do you have to be proud of? What are you doing right?

Start writing your wins down every day and see how things start to change.

Mama, I could widdle you down to your ideal weight, but it wouldn’t change how you feel about yourself. You have to change your thoughts before you reach your goals if you want to be happy with yourself.

Follow mindset work up with healthy habits

The mindset work is crucial to a healthy life, but so are healthy habits.

Now, before you go find a quick fix for weight loss, I want to offer you a better solution. Like I said, I tried everything and anything that promised me weight loss results and they all failed.

The biggest reason they failed was because I didn’t learn what my body needed; I just learned how to follow a diet.

And my perfectionist, oldest daughter personality made me really good at following a diet. But once the diet ended or I couldn’t take it anymore I got stuck in the same hole I’d been in before.

After more than a few times of being stuck in that stupid hole, I finally decided I needed more.

That’s when I found macro tracking.

Macro tracking taught me how to eat a balanced diet of protein, fat and carbs. It taught me how to stop restricting and start enjoying food again.

And the best part was that it taught me what MY body needed. How much food to eat to lose weight, to put on muscle, to maintain my weight loss.

Understanding food and how it affects our bodies is a crucial part of living a healthy life. One that most of us are never taught!

When I started macro tracking, I started to look at food differently and think about my food differently. I learned what food was and why my body needed certain nutrients - like carbs! Carbs are good for you! Amazing, right?

I also learned what a portion size was and how to eat the right amount of food for my nutritional needs.

Understanding what to eat and how much of it to eat took the fear out of eating. I wasn’t scared that eating a cookie or ice cream sandwich was going to send the scale up 10 lbs. I knew why the scale went up or down and how to get back on track if things shifted in a way I wasn’t happy with.

It taught me there were no good or bad foods. Just food accountability. I could eat dessert, I could drink, I could do what I wanted because I understood how it all worked together.

When I coupled that food accountability with my mindset work I finally, finally, saw the results I had been searching for. And I’ve been able to keep those results for nine years!

Mama, if you’re tired of dieting and not seeing any results then focus on your thoughts. It will make a huge difference. And if you need education about food or nutrition and how to eat for your body’s needs, then let’s chat.
